SOURCES OF H2S IN THE BIOGAS

Organic waste usually comes from:

  • Livestock and agricultural production
  • Solid urban waste
  • Sewage sludge
  • Industrial waste

Bacteria in the digester transform these substances into CH4 and CO2, generating other residual gases such as H2S, NH3 and other aromatics compounds

The reduction and/or removal of these waste gases is essential to meet permit emission requirements, as well as to use biogas as a fuel source.

Purified biogas can be transformed into energy by:

  • Combustion in boilers
  • Combustion engines

PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH H2S

Sulfide-reducer bacteria compete with methanogenic bacteria for the same substrates.

If H2S is not removed  when it’s produced, then pipes, digesters, motors and boilers will be corroded.

H2S is highly toxic. Maximum allowed concentration at work is only 10 ppm*

H2S reacts by combustion with O2 turning into SO2, which is an acid rain precursor.

THE SOLUTION

MICRONOX ON16® is a natural mixture of iron hydroxide iron (FeOOH) and iron oxide (Fe2O3) developed to be directly added to complete mix anaerobic digesters.

HOW DOES MICRONOX ON16® REACT?

CHEMISORPTION REACTION BETWEEN
MICRONOX ON16 ® AND H2S

APPLYING THE PRODUCT

A few ways to apply Micronox can be by direct application of (1) Disposing of the water soluble bags directly in the process (2) Using a pre-mix Micronox/water method with pumping capabilities to the process or (3) Using a bulk dispenser for the super sacks. Micronox is sold in containers of either 18 pallets of 44/lb bags (paper/ water-soluble) or 20 pallets of 2,200 lb Super Sacks.
